Downeast LNG Hosts Jobs Seminar On November 17

Program will give area residents an opportunity to learn about future job opportunities at the proposed LNG import terminal in Robbinston

ROBBINSTON, Maine - Area residents will have a chance to learn more about the job opportunities that will be created by an LNG import terminal in Robbinston at a jobs seminar hosted by Downeast LNG on Thursday, November 17, 2005, at 6:00 p.m. at the Robbinston Grade School.

“We’ve made a commitment to hiring local people,” said Dean Girdis, president of Downeast LNG. “Although we still have a lot of applications to file and permits to get before we can break ground, we wanted people to start thinking now about the jobs that will be available during the construction phase and later when the plant is operational.”

Girdis stressed that the jobs seminar is an informational program and not a jobs fair where people can actually fill out applications for positions. He said construction of the proposed facility probably won’t begin for another two years given the extensive permitting process, but that area residents have encouraged him to keep the project moving forward.

“This project is a partnership between Downeast LNG and the people of Robbinston, and the jobs seminar is the latest in a series of public meetings that we have held since announcing our plans last summer,” said Girdis. “We want local people to know as much as possible about the kinds of jobs that will be available, the training and experience that will be required, and the likely timetable for when the various positions will be needed.”

After an overview of the project status, Girdis, Rob Wyatt, vice president of environment and permitting, and outside experts will speak about the construction jobs, permanent plant operations positions, and related positions in tugboat construction and piloting. A representative of the Washington County Community College will discuss training opportunities through the college and from other sources. A general question and answer session will follow.
